Senator Jennifer Beck today (R-11) voiced her enthusiastic support of the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties’ Hunger Action Month kickoff. September is Hunger Action Month, when a nationwide network of food banks unite to urge individuals to take action in their communities. In Monmouth and Ocean Counties, Hunger Action Month serves as a call to action to business leaders, government officials, community leaders and all concerned citizens to work together to build food security for all.
“Nearly one out of ten residents in our communities is struggling with hunger related problems,” said Beck. “What many of us may take for granted can become life threatening issues for those less fortunate. This month is a time for us to spread the awareness of hunger and reach out to those in need. We can all help put an end to this quiet but pervasive problem.
During Hunger Action Month, the Foodbank as asking community members to:
- Tie orange ribbons to trees and lampposts at courthouses, libraries and other government buildings.
- Take action: this symbolic color of hunger is orange. This September, light up your website orange and declare your support of Hunger Action month
- September 5 is National Wear Orange Day – encourage employees and residents to show their support by wearing orange.
